There’s just something about Rocky Mountain National Park that makes a marriage proposal feel like it belongs in a movie. Maybe it’s the mountain air, the alpine lakes, or the way the sun rises over the peaks and hits the water just right. Whatever it is, I’ve had the honor of photographing quite a few proposals inside RMNP, and every single one is unforgettable—for the couple and for me as the photographer.

Locations I enjoy working in...

Dream Lake
rocky mountain natoinal park, colorado

If you're picturing crystal-clear alpine water framed by snow-capped peaks, Dream Lake is one of the most breathtaking spots in all of Rocky Mountain National Park. It’s about a one-mile hike in, and once you arrive, the stillness and surrounding scenery make it feel completely secluded—like the rest of the world has disappeared. I’ve photographed several surprise proposals here, and while it’s beautiful any time of year, my personal favorite is when there’s snow on the ground and the mountains are frosted in white. There’s just something magical about the way winter transforms this landscape—it’s quiet, romantic, and completely unforgettable.

Mills Lake
rocky mountain natoinal park, colorado

Looking for something a little more off the beaten path but still ridiculously beautiful? Mills Lake is a little further in (about 2.5 miles each way), but it’s peaceful, grand, and absolutely photogenic. It’s ideal if you two love hiking and want a proposal location in Rocky Mountain National Park that feels more secluded.

Jewel Lake
rocky mountain natoinal park, colorado

Jewel Lake is tucked just beyond Mills and feels like a hidden gem (pun intended). It’s quiet, reflective (literally and emotionally), and makes for breathtaking proposal photos. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph here when the light was soft and golden, and it felt like time stood still.

Big Meadows
rocky mountain natoinal park, colorado

Big views, open skies, and a sense of calm—that’s Big Meadows. This is a fantastic proposal location inside RMNP if you're not into steep hikes but still want those epic Colorado views. It has that peaceful meadow vibe with a rugged mountain backdrop, and it’s a great spot for a surprise proposal with some flexibility on timing and distance.

How I Help You Plan the Perfect Proposal in RMNP
Hiring a Rocky Mountain National Park proposal photographer means more than just snapping a few pictures. I help you plan everything—from choosing the best location based on the time of year, to figuring out how to get there and where to stand. I’m familiar with park entry logistics, sunrise timing, and even which trails will be less crowded depending on the day.
And yes, I’ve done this many times. Whether you want to go full stealth mode (me hiding behind a rock with a long lens) or something more planned out and posed, I’ve got you covered. I’ll also help you navigate the entry permit system for RMNP, which is required during certain hours and seasons.
