A Surprise Proposal—with Her Parents Hiding in the Trees
When Kyle reached out to me, he already had one thing on his mind: planning the perfect Sapphire Point marriage proposal. But he didn’t just want to ask Casey to marry him—he wanted to pull off a double surprise.
Not only would he be getting down on one knee in one of Colorado’s most scenic locations, but he also wanted Casey’s parents to be secretly present for the moment. And yes—he wanted it all photographed without a hitch.
As a Breckenridge proposal photographer, this kind of thoughtful, layered plan always gets me excited to help bring it to life.
Why Sapphire Point Was the Perfect Proposal Spot
Kyle needed a location that offered stunning mountain views but also enough flexibility to pull off a little covert activity. Sapphire Point Overlook checked every box. Located just outside of Breckenridge, this overlook offers jaw-dropping views of Dillon Reservoir and the Tenmile Range—plus a meandering trail that makes surprise entrances possible.
But this wasn’t just about the scenery. It was about logistics.
Casey had been told her car was going in for repairs. In reality, her parents were flying in from Ohio and driving the car up to Breckenridge themselves the night before the proposal. I met them at Breckenridge Brewery to go over the final plan and coordinate the surprise.
To keep things stealthy, I smuggled her parents up to Sapphire Point in my own truck so Casey wouldn’t spot her car and become suspicious. We had it all timed down to the minute.
How We Pulled Off the Ultimate Double Surprise
About 30 minutes before Kyle and Casey were set to arrive, I picked up her parents and brought them to Sapphire Point. We had them walk up the trail and hide around 50 yards away—just far enough to stay out of sight, but close enough to join the celebration the moment she said yes.
The night before, I’d emailed Kyle detailed instructions on how to position himself at the overlook, how to signal when he was ready, and how to bring her parents into the scene right after the proposal.
Everything worked flawlessly. The moment Kyle dropped to one knee, Casey’s world shifted—and minutes later, it shifted again as her parents stepped out from the trees. The look on her face was pure magic.
Casey has no idea that her parents have been hiding in the woods during her surprise marriage proposal. I have her distracted as they emerge from their hiding space.
Why I Love Photographing Proposals at Sapphire Point
This is one of the most requested locations for a surprise proposal in Breckenridge, and for good reason. The views are stunning in every season, the trail is easy to access, and there’s enough space to accommodate plans that involve friends or family.
Whether it’s just the two of you or you’re planning a surprise appearance from loved ones, Sapphire Point Overlook offers a perfect canvas for one of life’s biggest moments.
